Privacy and cookie policy

This policy explains what personal data Makely collects, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have. It covers visitors to makely.studio, clients, people who contact us, and business contacts we approach about our services.

Who we are

Makely is a trading name of Ali Dalton Design Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. Ali Dalton Design Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

Information we collect

When you work with us or contact us

Your name, email address, company, role and project details. If you pay us, billing details. Card details are handled by our payment providers (such as Stripe or PayPal) and are never stored by us. If you book a call, the details you enter in our booking calendar.

When you visit our website

• Hosting logs. Our hosting provider, Netlify, records technical data from every request, including your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver and secure the site.
• Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. Google Analytics loads on every visit in a restricted mode that sets no cookies until you accept. In that mode, Google still receives limited information about your visit (such as the page viewed, your browser and approximate location derived from your IP address) without any identifier. If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies so it can recognise return visits.
• Business development tools. If you accept cookies, we use Apollo.io, a sales intelligence platform, to help us understand which organisations are interested in our services and to support our business development. To do this, Apollo processes information about your visit, such as your IP address, browser and pages viewed, and may match it against business information it holds. We do not ask Apollo to identify you as an individual.
• Third-party content. To display the site, your browser loads fonts from Google Fonts and a code library from unpkg. Both receive your IP address when your browser requests the file.
• Booking calendar. When the booking section comes into view, our booking calendar loads from Cal.com, which receives your IP address and may use its own storage to run the calendar.

How we use your information and our lawful basis

• To deliver our services and manage our client relationship: performance of a contract, or steps you asked us to take before entering one.
• To reply to enquiries and arrange calls: our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
• To keep financial records: legal obligation.
• To run and secure the website: our legitimate interest in operating a working, secure site.
• Analytics and business development cookies: your consent, given through our cookie banner. Any business information that results is then used for business development on the basis of our legitimate interests.
• Prospecting and business-to-business outreach: our legitimate interest in promoting our services to organisations that may benefit from them.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Business development and prospecting

We sometimes contact people at organisations we think may benefit from our services. We collect their details from other sources rather than from them directly.

• Sources: Apollo.io, LinkedIn, company websites and other publicly available business sources.
• Information: name, job title, employer, business email address, business phone number, professional profile URL, and company details such as size, industry and funding stage.
• Purpose: to identify relevant contacts and send them a small number of business-to-business messages about our services.
• Lawful basis: our legitimate interests. We have assessed that contacting people in their professional capacity about relevant services is proportionate, and we keep outreach limited.
• Your right to object: you can tell us to stop at any time by replying to any message or emailing hello@makely.studio. We will stop immediately and keep only the minimum needed to make sure we do not contact you again.
• Retention: we delete prospecting data if there has been no engagement within 12 months.

Who we share data with

We share personal data only with providers who help us run our business, and with authorities where the law requires it:

• Netlify (website hosting)
• Google (Google Analytics and Google Fonts)
• Apollo.io (sales intelligence and business development)
• Cal.com (call booking)
• unpkg (delivery of code used on the site)
• Stripe or PayPal (payments)
• Email, file-sharing and communication tools we use to deliver projects, such as Slack

International transfers

Several of these providers are based in, or process data in, the United States. Where this happens, we rely on the provider's certification under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or on the ICO's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, so that your data stays protected.

How long we keep data

• Client and project records: for the life of the relationship, then 6 years for legal and accounting purposes.
• Enquiries that do not lead to work: up to 2 years.
• Prospecting data: up to 12 months without engagement.
• Analytics data: Google Analytics keeps event data for 2 months.
• Hosting logs: as set by Netlify.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage items. Strictly necessary items are always on. Everything else needs your consent through the cookie banner.

Changing or withdrawing your consent

You can change your choice or withdraw consent at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of our site. If you withdraw consent, we stop loading Google Analytics cookies and Apollo.io and delete their cookies from your browser. You can also clear cookies for makely.studio in your browser settings, or email hello@makely.studio and we will help.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you
• ask us to correct it
• ask us to delete it
• ask us to restrict how we use it
• object to our use of it, including an absolute right to object to direct marketing
• receive your data in a portable format, where processing is based on consent or contract
• withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
